KEEP YOUR HANDS ON THE STEERING WHEEL AND YOUR EYES ON THE ROAD!

Driving while talking on the cell phone can be very dangerous. Many states have passed laws against the use of holding a cell phone while operating a motor vehicle. ASF recommends completing phone calls before driving, but if you must talk on a cell phone while driving, many state laws require the use of hands free cell phone devices such as, "Bluetooth."

While using hand free devices make sure that you are pulled over and stopped before dialing phone numbers and/or text messaging! Also avoid other dangerous habits such as eating, changing radio etc. Keep your hands on the steering wheel and your eyes on the road!

PASSENGER ALERT!

It is human nature to seek eye contact while talking...Drivers should warn passengers not to distract them or seek eye contact, as driving requires concentration and focus on the road ahead. The use of hands free cell phone does not entail looking at a passenger.

CELL PHONE HANDS FREE CAMPAIGN

Since most drivers insist on using cell phone while driving, ASF is currently seeking sponsorship to help drivers obtain hands free/Bluetooth equipment at reduced pricing while aiding the good cause of automobile safety. PHONE SAFETY INNOVATIONS

ASF recommends that the auto industry pioneer cell phone communications that offer generic hookup through the automobile's radio with vocal command dialing. Additionally, new vehicles could have built in, standard equipment cell phones.

The Automobile Safety Foundation does not manufacture or distribute cell phones, hands free devices , or any auto safety equipment.
